Postdoctoral positions
Prof. Yang Xu is seeking highly creative and self-motivated postdoctoral research fellows in the broad areas of CAD/CAM, machine learning/LLM, additive manufacturing, and robotics. This appointment will begin in Sep 2025.
According to HKU's policy, the applicant must demonstrate excellent English proficiency, as evidenced by either of the following:
- A PhD degree from an English-teaching university (overseas or in Hong Kong),
Or
- At least 2 years of academic experience at an English-teaching university (overseas or in Hong Kong),
Or
- An IELTS score of 7.0 or higher (with subtest scores above 6.5, taken within the past 2 years); or TOEFL iBT test score of 98 or higher (with subtest scores above 20, taken within the past 2 years)

Ph.D. positions
1-2 Ph.D. positions are available for enrollment in Spring or Fall 2026. Applicants should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Robotics, Material Science or related fields. Highly qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the Ph.D. program in Data and Systems Engineering at HKU and indicate your interest in working with Prof. Yang Xu in the application. All admitted Ph.D. students will be fully supported either by Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), HKU Presidential Ph.D. Scholar Programme (HKU-PS), or Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS).
