Prof. Yang Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Data and Systems Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Beihang University, a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC). Before joining HKU, Prof. Xu was a postdoctoral research associate at UC Berkeley.

Prof. Xu’s research focuses on advancing the integration of design, manufacturing, and AI to develop next-generation engineering solutions. His work explores how AI can augment human creativity, accelerate scientific discovery, and enable intelligent decision-making across the design-to-manufacturing pipeline. His current research focuses on intelligent additive manufacturing, agentic AI for science, and physical AI for manufacturing, aiming to create autonomous, data-driven, and physically grounded technologies for future product design and production.
